The Reject Shop History

 

Our business goes back over 25 years and here is a quick look at what we have achieved since we began:


  • 1981 - The Reject Shop was founded by Ron Hall and John Shuster with the first Melbourne store 
  • 1985 - Ceased selling factory seconds and commenced discount variety retailing
  • 1989 - Commenced direct importing of merchandise from overseas
  • 1990 - Opened first 'Everything Here $2' store
  • 1990 - Expanded into NSW with first store at Pagewood
  • 1992 - Opened first store in South Australia at Elizabeth
  • 1993 - Selected as Dunn and Bradstreet Victorian Business of the Year award
  • 1994 - Private Equity invests to fund future growth
  • 2004 - The Reject Shop opened its 100th store
  • 2004 - The Reject Shop successfully listed on the Australian Stock Exchange at $2 per share
  • 2005 - The first Queensland store opened in Pacific Fair
  • 2006 - The first WA store opened in Booragoon
  • 2006 - The last ‘Everything Here $2’ store closed
  • 2006 - Opened National Distribution Centre at Melbourne Airport
  • 2007 - The Reject Shop enters the ASX Top 300
  • 2008 - The first Tas store opened in Hobart
  • 2009 - Implemented SAP,  the new IT enterprise system
  • 2009 - Opened 30 stores (23 opened in 22 weeks!)  
  • 2010 - Opened Distribution Centre in Ipswich
