Are you looking for some creative ways to celebrate Easter this year?
Here are three easy projects which you can complete in one to a few hours. Your children can help out if you give them a hand on the more difficult steps.
Easter Poster
To add a festive touch to your home, you can make an Easter themed poster. You may like to use an image not traditionally associated with Easter.
Some suggested messages are: Happy Easter, Have a Happy Easter, Some Bunny Loves You, You’re Hotter than a Hot Cross Bun and Hippity Happity Hoppity Easter.
You will need from The Reject Shop:
- A creative colouring-in book (I chose Tribal Karma)
- A plain A4 piece of paper or cardboard
- A set of coloured pencils (classic or metallic)
- A glue stick and scissors
- Black felt tip pen
1. Choose an image from your colouring-in book and try your hand at mindful colouring in. (I like to use a clipboard and do it while watching television.)
2. When you are finished carefully cut out around the edges of your design.
3. Glue your image on to a white or coloured piece of paper or cardboard. Make sure you leave enough room for the message.
4. Practise your message on some scrap paper and when you are feeling confident use a black felt tip pen to write your Easter message.
5. Decide where and how you are going to display your handmade Easter poster.
You can hang your poster with magnets on the fridge, pin it to a corkboard, laminate it or frame it in an inexpensive A4 wooden frame.
Easter Gift Bags and Cards
Here are some easy and festive ways to decorate plain gift bags and gift tags. This is an ideal activity to complete with younger children. Older children may like to decorate the bag with drawings in coloured pencils or pens.
You will need from The Reject Shop:
- Kraft gift tags
- Kraft bags with handles
- Easter themed stickers or foam cut-outs
- A set of coloured pencils (classic or metallic)
- Black or coloured felt tip pens
- Ribbon
- Mini Easter eggs, Lindt chocolate bunnies, or Smarties bunnies
1. Add some stickers or foam cut out to the craft bags.
2. Decorate the gift tags with sticker or foam cut outs.
3. Write a message and the recipient’s name on the gift tag.
4. Fill the decorated bags with shredded paper and chocolate Easter eggs or bunnies.
5. Tie the gift tag to the bag handle and add some ribbon bows.
Personalised Pen Holders
These pen holders have been decorated with images or photos for a non-traditional Easter present. You can fill them with mini Easter eggs, or coloured pencils and pens.
This is an ideal gift to give if the recipient gets inundated with chocolate from other relatives. This activity is more difficult than the previous two craft projects, so it would suit older children or you can finish the project at the cutting and sticking stages.
You will need from The Reject Shop:
- Pen holders kraft paper and neon
- Pages from a creative colouring-in book, magazine or photos
- Coloured pencils (classic or metallic)
- Glue stick or craft glue
- Ruler and scissors
- Kitchen paper
1. Decide what kind of images you are going to use to decorate the pen holders with. I would suggest photos of your family, images from an old magazine or coloured in pages from a colouring in book.
2. Cut out four images in the dimensions of 8.5cm height and 7.5cm wide. This step needs to be accurate so I suggest cutting out a few spare and selecting the best ones.
3. Glue the images on the four sides of the pen holder using a glue stick or craft glue. Wipe up any excess glue with a piece of kitchen paper.
4. Fill the pen holder with your Easter gift.
I hope you enjoy trying these handmade gifts for Easter.
Be creative and make them your own.
