PRIVACY POLICY

1. INTRODUCTION

Dollarama Australia Pty Ltd (formerly The Reject Shop Limited) (ABN 33 006 122 676) trading as The Reject Shop, in conjunction with its related bodies corporate (collectively “The Reject Shop” and hereinafter also defined as “we” or “us”), is committed to complying with all applicable privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and protecting the privacy and security of your personal information obtained by reason of your interaction with The Reject Shop, including through or in connection with our stores and our websites (including but not limited to www.rejectshop.com.au, mobile applications, loyalty program, services such as chat, live support, or of similar functionality (“Chats”)), and any other site or portal referring the user to this Privacy Policy, (collectively, the “Sites”).

This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains: 

  • the types of personal information we collect;
  • when such collection occurs;
  • how we handle, use and share the personal information we collect;
  • the steps we take to ensure your personal information is safeguarded appropriately; and
  • how you can contact us or make a complaint regarding your personal information and this Privacy Policy.

The terms and conditions of use of our Sites refer to and incorporate this Privacy Policy and by using said Sites, you consent to this Privacy Policy. From time to time, we may make changes to this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy was last updated in January 2026. We encourage you to look for updates and changes to this Privacy Policy by checking its effective date from time to time. Continued use of the Sites after an update is posted will constitute consent to the new version of the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the changes in our Privacy Policy, it is your responsibility to stop using our services or purchasing our products. It is your obligation to ensure that you read, understand and agree to the latest version of the Privacy Policy.

Our Sites may contain links to websites which are owned and operated by third parties. Please note that this Privacy Policy does not apply to such other websites and services and we have no responsibility over their content or privacy policy. If you provide your personal information to a third party via a link from our Site, that information is collected and managed by that third party subject to their privacy policy.

2. DEFINITION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

This Privacy Policy applies to any personal information we collect or receive about you, from you or from any other source. “Personal information” as used in this Privacy Policy generally refers to any information that identifies an individual or from which an individual is reasonably identifiable (such as your name, phone number, postal and email address, date of birth and, in some circumstances, videos and images of you). It may also include technical information such as your IP address, browser settings and device ID, but only when this information can identify you as an individual. Please note that personal information excludes information that is anonymised as described in section 6 (eg: aggregate information which represents compiled data from a group of individuals who can no longer be individually identified).

3. CATEGORIES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION COLLECTED

We limit the collection of personal information to what is reasonably required to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected. Depending on your interaction with us, we may collect:

Personal identifiers or demographic information, such as your name, postal or residential address, phone number, email address, account number, username, appearance or signature;

Payment and transaction information, such as your transaction history or order information;

On site information, such as when you visit our stores or other premises including images or video footage of you obtained from closed-circuit television (CCTV), body worn cameras or other cameras used inside and outside our Sites;

Health information, such as medical or hospital records in connection with an injury or condition related to a product or public liability claim or workers compensation claim;

Loyalty / team member discount program information, such as information about your participation in and purchases through our loyalty program or the team member discount card;

Professional or employment-related information and other information you submit to us when applying for an employment opportunity or provided via employment screening results, which may include some of the information described above, as well as your date of birth, age, gender, proof of identity document, resume, references, background, criminal record and eligibility to work checks as well as any additional information provided by you in an application; or

Internet or other electronic network activity information (i.e. technical information when you visit our websites or use our mobile applications), including when you log in to use our products and services or interact with our social media channels. This information is collected via automated means, such as cookies, authorised token, web beacons and similar technologies, and may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address, device ID, browser type, data about the web pages you visited on our websites, time and duration of a visit and information about your location and language preferences.

4. COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for, or directly related to, our functions and activities. We will generally collect personal information directly from you when you purchase a product, browse a Site or interact with us directly, as deemed necessary for the purposes defined in Section 6 below. Where practicable, you may choose to deal with us anonymously or by using a pseudonym.

If you provide us with the personal information of someone else, you must obtain their consent to do so and tell them about this Privacy Policy.

a. Directly from you

We may collect your personal information directly from you such as:

  • when you purchase a product or gift card via our Sites, or make inquiries regarding your purchases or products, we may collect information about the transaction or payment;
  • when you subscribe to our mailing list or create an account with us, we may collect contact information from you;
  • when you interact with us, contact us or send us questions, comments, feedback, suggestions or complaints, including via our social media channels, or seek a refund, we may collect contact information and information about your inquiry, including transaction and health information, that is necessary in order to address it or to respond to you;
  • when there is a health or safety incident at our Sites or related to our products, we may collect personal identifying information or health information about you, including via CCTV footage;
  • when there is actual or suspected criminal activity at our Sites, we may collect personal identifying information about you, including via CCTV footage;
  • when you apply for a position (whether directly or through an agency), we may collect contact information and other information to process your application for employment including your employment and education history, eligibility to work in Australia, criminal history and health information;
  • when we acquire goods or services, or lease Sites from you, we may collect contact information and other information from you;
  • when you create or access an account on our Sites, we may collect information to identify you;
  • when you use (and install, when applicable) our Sites, Chats and/or applications, we may collect information about how you use the Sites and where you are located; 
  • when you participate in a promotion, competition or survey, we may collect information to identify you and other information from you; and
  • we may collect any other personal information you voluntarily provide to us in connection with any other matter or otherwise as required or permitted by law.


Safeguarding your personal information
. We have reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative measures in place to safeguard the security of your personal information. However, when you communicate with customer service via email or Chat on our Sites, these communications may not be encrypted. For that reason, we ask that you do not share sensitive information via these communication channels.

You may not impersonate or attempt to gain information regarding another individual via Chat.

b. Through our website or other technologies

We, or our service providers that help us maintain and operate our Sites and mobile applications, may also automatically collect the following information relating to your access to and use of our website and applications through cookies (small data files stored on your device used to access and use our Sites), Web beacons (small transparent images used to track Sites visits and effectiveness of advertising) and other similar technologies: your domain name; your browser type and operating system; your type of computer or mobile device; pages you view; links you click; your IP address; the length of time you visit or use the service; and how you use the service. However, please note that cookies and beacons might be necessary to access or use certain features of our Sites.

We may also collect information you share regarding The Reject Shop on social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

We may also be collecting information about your approximate physical location when you use a mobile device to access our Sites. If you do not want us to collect such information, please adjust or modify the settings of your mobile device accordingly.

c. Cameras

We use cameras, including CCTV, in and around our stores to protect our rights and property, and to ensure the safety and security of our team members, customers and the public. We also use these cameras to assist law enforcement or government bodies in identifying persons that are suspected of committing offences, to investigate health or safety incidents at our Sites, and to look for ways to improve our customers’ experiences.

d. Indirectly

We may collect your personal information indirectly where you have authorised such collection, where it is permitted by law or from publicly available or open source information.

5. COLLECTION OF SENSITIVE INFORMATION

We may collect sensitive information such as:

  • health information where required to manage compliance with our health and safety obligations or to respond to health and safety incidents at our Sites or in connection with our products; and
  • criminal offence details as part of employment screening or to investigate actual or suspected criminal activity in our stores or at our Sites.

6. USAGE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We will generally use your personal information as part of our normal business operations in order to provide you with our products and services, and to support our business, for research and development purposes, for marketing purposes or otherwise, with your consent or as permitted or required by law as described in more detail below.

We may also anonymise your personal information so that it, irreversibly, can no longer be used to identify you directly or indirectly. This anonymised information is no longer considered personal information. We anonymise personal information to protect your privacy and the security of your personal information, and we use and share anonymised information for the purposes described below.

a. General business purpose

More specifically, we may use your personal information for the following business purposes:

  • to process your purchases and related transactions, including returns and exchanges;
  • to issue you with a gift card;
  • to provide customer service and to respond to your questions, comments, feedback, suggestions or complaints regarding our products or services;
  • to assist in investigating product issues or health and safety incidents;
  • to communicate with you about our products and promotions;
  • to elaborate and improve our product offerings and our services;
  • to manage and improve our customers’ experiences and our Sites;
  • to monitor, analyse and assess the access and use of our Sites, including the registration
    and authentication of your account, if applicable;
  • to customise the content of our Sites and advertising to help you locate nearby stores;
  • to consider your application for employment;
  • to manage our business relationship with you if you are a supplier / service provider or if you work for a supplier / service provider;
  • to protect our rights and property;
  • to ensure the safety and security of our team members, customers and the public;
  • to investigate, or assist law enforcement or government bodies in investigating, actual or suspected criminal activity;
  • to detect and prevent fraud;
  • to inform you of product safety information;
  • to maintain appropriate records for internal administrative purposes, including for staffing and management of personnel; and
  • to comply with legal requirements or for any other purpose you have consented to.

b. Research and development purpose

We may use your personal information to understand and assess your interests and changing needs with a view to improving our products and services and developing new ones, as well as to evaluate potential improvements or other modifications to the functionality of our Sites. For instance, we may use third-party web analytics services, such as Google Analytics, to help us analyse how visitors use our websites. We will use anonymised information for these purposes where required.

c. Marketing purposes

We may use your personal information to provide you with personalised marketing, content and services, such as tailoring our products and services, our digital experience and offerings.

We may also use your personal information to communicate with you in a variety of ways (for example, by email, telephone, text message, direct mail or through our online support services) about our programs, products, services, special offers, promotions, competitions or events that may be of interest to you. If you no longer wish to receive our direct marketing messages, please follow the unsubscribe procedure included in each of these messages.

7. SHARING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We may disclose your personal information to third parties including:

  • entities affiliated with The Reject Shop for the purposes detailed in this Privacy Policy;
  • suppliers where it is necessary to assist in investigating product issues;
  • service providers who assist us with respect to any of the purposes stated in Section 6 above (including payment solution providers) or who require such information to perform their services for us;
  • professional advisers and insurers;
  • if we believe that the disclosure of your personal information is required or permitted by law;
  • if we believe that the disclosure of personal information will help us protect our rights, our property or the safety and security of our team members, customers and the public;
  • if we believe that the disclosure of personal information is necessary in the investigation of actual or suspected criminal activity or in response to a request by law enforcement authorities or government bodies;
  • if such disclosure would be in a way that it would not directly identify you, such as through aggregate information; or
  • when required in the context of a prospective or completed business transaction, such as a transfer of assets or shares or merger.

8. AUTOMATED DECISION MAKING AND AI

We (as well as our service providers) may utilise AI, data analytics and other technologies to consider your personal information:

  • to facilitate, support and enhance the provision of goods, services and information we provide; or
  • for other lawful purposes including as described in this Privacy Policy.

9. YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS

You have choices about the way The Reject Shop handles your personal information.

a. Changing your communication preferences

You may opt out of receiving direct marketing or promotional messages from The Reject Shop, including by following the “unsubscribe” procedure included in each of these messages. You may also change your communication preferences by contacting us in writing using the relevant contact information listed in Section 14 below.  

Please note that even if you have indicated your choice not to receive commercial messages from us, we may still communicate with you in connection with a service, in accordance with applicable law (for example, to send you important product information, service notification or recall). In addition, it may take up to ten (10) business days to register a change of preference across all our records.

b. Changing your browser settings on your device

We use technology to enhance your experience and present you with offers, including personalised advertising. Through technologies such as cookies, our websites recognise you when you use or return to them and can provide you with a seamless experience. You can remove or disable some of these technologies at any time through your browser. However, if you do so, you may not be able to use some of the features of our websites.

10. SAFEGUARDS AND DATA GOVERNANCE

We hold personal information electronically and in hard copy at our Sites and other premises and with the assistance of our service providers. We have implemented physical, organisational, contractual and technological security measures in an effort to protect your personal information and reduce the risk of loss or theft, unauthorised access, disclosure, copying and misuse or modification of your personal information. These measures include access controls and IT network security measures such as intrusion detection systems and security software applications. While we take steps to ensure the security of your data and personal information, we cannot and do not guarantee the absolute protection and security of any personal information, including information handled by any third parties on our behalf.

11. CROSS-BORDER TRANSFERS OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Your personal information may be transferred, stored, accessed or used in a jurisdiction outside Australia, including Canada, Latin America, India and the Philippines, in connection with our use of third-party service providers engaged by us. We engage these third-party service providers to assist us in providing our services to you; for example, in order to process payments, fulfil product orders, or manage our communications with you.

We take steps to ensure that our third-party service providers take reasonable security measures to protect your personal information (this includes technical, administrative and physical safeguards to protect your personal information).

12. ACCESSING AND CORRECTING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

You may be entitled to access your personal information and request the correction of information that is inaccurate, incomplete or no longer up to date.

When requesting access to your personal information, please provide as much detail as you can about the specific information you seek to help us retrieve it. Under the Privacy Act and other relevant laws, we may be required to provide a written response to you if we are unable to respond to your request, outlining the reasons why we were unable to do so.

Where you request a correction to your personal information, but The Reject Shop elects not to make the requested correction, you may request that The Reject Shop adds a note to your information outlining your position.

If you have a concern or complaint about this Privacy Policy or the way we handle your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer using the details included in Section 14 below.  We will attempt to respond to your concern or complaint within thirty (30) days or we will advise you if we require a longer response time.

Please be advised that in order for you to modify, access or review your personal information, we may ask you to provide us with sufficient identification.

In all cases, we will generally attempt to answer your request within thirty (30) days or we will advise you if we require a longer response time.
