Unicorn Party Ideas on a Budget

Do you have a Unicorn lover in the house? Jenny from PagingFunMums certainly does and has thrown an amazing Unicorn-themed birthday party for her little girl. Jenny shows us exactly how we can throw a crowd pleasing Unicorn party on a budget. Take a read below to find out all the savvy tips...

My little girl can’t get enough of all things Unicorn! Thankfully there are plenty of things on the market to help accomodate such infatuations! When my daughter asked if she could have a Unicorn Party this year, I said ‘why, heck yes darling!’ I love Unicorns myself!

I got to planning - I knew I didn't want to break the bank, so my first stop was of course The Reject Shop. I was so overwhelmed by how many Unicorn themed items they actually had! From toys, to partyware, lights, craft kits and even Magical Unicorn Poo! That’s right – combining my daughter’s two favourite things…Unicorns and Slime (urrm, Poo).

I’m going to show you how I put together an amazing Unicorn party all on a budget!

On the day, I did a Facebook LIVE video showcasing all of the party ware. You can check it out here!

The Invitations

The best way to set the tone for a good party, is of course, a great invitation! These invitations look complicated and hard to make, but trust me, they are not! I bought everything I needed from The Reject Shop so you know it’s for a savvy price.

The Party Table

So now it’s straight on to the party table! I have a wonderful friend from Sublime Cakes and Sweets who made the cake and cookies which turned out amazing.

Once I knew they were sorted. I started putting together all of the decorations.

Unicorn Cupcake Goodie Holders

I made these adorable Unicorn Cupcake ‘goodie holders’ out of plain white cupcake papers, gem stickers, gold cardboard – all purchased from The Reject Shop. I then cut small triangle shapes from the gold card and glued them to the inside of the papers to form the Unicorn Horn. Then, I proceeded to glue the cute little gem stickers and drew on the eyelashes with a sharpie. Easy, affordable and very adorable!

Unicorn Partyware Holders

I used a similar concept for these ‘partyware holders’. I purchased the cup from – you guessed it - The Reject Shop - for just $2 (they’re actually bathroom toothbrush holders). Then, I used the same gold cardboard to form the Unicorn horn and glued that in place (I highly recommend a glue gun by the way). I continued to glue on some floral decorations and gems and again, used the sharpie to draw on the eyelashes. So easy! They’re now used in my daughters room to hold her hair clips - very useful.

Unicorn Milkshake Drinks

The Reject Shop  has so many beautiful stickers, gift tags and craft products available. I used these gorgeous Unicorn gift cards as decoration for my strawberry Unicorn Milk drinks…aren’t they sweet!

Unicorn Popcorn

I also used the Unicorn gift cards to make my popcorn treats extra cute!

How to make my Unicorn Popcorn:

  • Pop your popcorn in the microwave and lay out to cool on a tray
  • Melt white chocolate and add purple and/or pink food colouring
  • Drizzle the melted chocolate over the popcorn
  • Add the set popcorn into pretty popcorn containers and adorn with sparkles!

Unicorn Fudge

I also made ‘Unicorn Fudge’. This was made with only TWO ingredients!

What you'll need is:

  • 350g of white chocolate
  • 450g can of strawberry frosting
  • Edible pink or colourful sprinkles

Method:

  1. Melt the chocolate in a bain marie or in a microwave in 30 second intervals until melted
  2. Add the strawberry frosting and stir well to combine
  3. Add the mixture to a small cake pan and add the sprinkles pushing them down with your fingers
  4. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour then slice!

Fairy/Unicorn Bread

You simply can’t have a party without fairy bread! I purchased a Unicorn Cookie Cutter from The Reject Shop for $2! So simple and oh so pretty!

Unicorn Party Bags

For the goodie bags, I bought a pack of plain white party bags from The Reject Shop then ordered some printables from the ETSY store Creative Party Studio. Simply print and stick them on! I also stuffed them with beautiful tissue paper and added some super cute treats and goodies – all available from The Reject Shop.

Party Table Backdrop

To create my Unicorn Eyes and headpiece for the backdrop to my party table, I bought some pre-made ‘Fluffy Flowers‘ and black cardboard from The Reject Shop. The fluffy flowers simply come ready made from the packet, you just need to fluff them and stick them onto the wall! I drew on and cut out the shape for the Unicorn eyelashes from the black cardboard and traced that onto the second piece. Super easy and super effective.

Party Activities

Now to the activities...

The Reject Shop has some pretty ‘Pom Pom Unicorn’ craft packs…for only $5.

The girls also oved making ‘Unicorn Poo’ er um, Slime! It was one of the highlights of the party for them. You can purchase the said ‘Poo’ from The Reject Shop. It even comes with a slime recipe booklet too!

What's a birthday party without a good game of Pass The Parcel?!  With all of the gifts from The Reject Shop, I made sure each layer of wrapping had a gift inside so each girl got to take home something special.  There were craft kits, stickers, sharpeners, and even a Unicorn diary.

Unicorn Headbands

I must admit, my absolute favourite thing of all were these gorgeous Unicorn headbands!

There are so many YouTube videos showing how to make these yourself at home and it really is quite the process. However, once I saw these pre-made headbands from The Reject Shop , I was sure that I was on to a winner. The only thing to do was glue all the pre-made pieces together! The girls squealed with excitement when I handed them out. Such a great party favourite!

I hope you got a few hints and tips on how to host a Unicorn Themed Party on a budget. I know I had such a blast planning and putting this party together.
