Supplies needed:
- A punnet of strawberries
- Block of chocolate*
- Baking paper*
- Cooling rack*
- Spoon
- Knife
- Toothpicks*
- Gift Box*
- Tissue Paper*
Step 1
Wash and cut the stems off the strawberries and slice in half making sure you cut in the middle down.
Tip: Make sure that the strawberries are very, very dry. If you have any water left from rinsing or any sticky bruised areas, the coating won’t "stick" to the strawberry as well. Drops of water can also make your chocolate seize up and become grainy as you dip. After rinsing the strawberries, we recommend patting them dry and then laying them out on a clean tea towel until they are completely dry.
Step 2
Place the strawberries side-by-side and cut out the middle of each half so it forms a nice love heart shape. Aww.
Step 3
Place a toothpick through the middle of each strawberry.
Step 4
Place the strawberries in the freezer for an hour while you:
a) Pour yourself a drink because you deserve it.
b) Get out that red lippy you've been meaning to try on. Ooh lala
Step 5
Chocolate time…mmm…
Now there are a number of ways to melt the block of chocolate, like the water bath method, but if time is not on your side, the microwave is just as good. Just be sure to not try and melt it all in one go or you'll risk burning the chocolate. Do it in small spurts, while stirring and checking in-between. No one wants to waste good chocolate!
Step 6
Remove the frozen strawberries and place on a cooling wire.
Dip each strawberry heart in the melted chocolate and place back on the cooling wire.
Make sure there is baking paper underneath the wire in case of excess chocolate. And if there is (hooray), scoop the excess chocolate with a spoon and use to coat the strawberries a touch more.
Step 7
Using a spoon carefully spread remaining chocolate evenly over the strawberries so they’re completely covered. Nom nom..
Step 8
Leave on the wire or transfer to a clean baking paper and place in the fridge until the chocolate hardens.
Step 9
Remove toothpicks and cut off the excess chocolate.
Step 10
So now they’re ready and you have a few options:
1. Eat immediately. No judgment. In fact, this is a great idea. You earned it.
2. Get out some pretty tissue paper, a cute gift box from store and pop the little beauties inside with an adorable bow / love note.
3. Place gently on platter surrounded by other tasty delights that were also once fruit and pop the bubbles in the fridge. It’s always best to be prepared!
Enjoy!
